A beautiful smile can do wonders for one’s self-esteem – and their looks as well. But like everything else, a smile needs to be taken good care of, for both health and aesthetics. Some things you have been probably doing since you were a kid and you rarely give them second thoughts. But did you know there is an ample of things you might be doing for those whites? You don’t want to be just keeping your mouth clean, you want to do that the right way.
Avoid Colored Beverages
People usually hate this advice, because colored just tastes good. Think coffee, red wine, dark juices. But if you have them on a daily basis, they will, over time, leave stains not that easy to get rid of. Limit your consumption of these, and maybe think of having a portable toothbrush that you can use even in the toilet of a bar.
Don’t Skip the Chewing Gum
Chewing gums stimulate the production of saliva, and that’s the most natural way of helping you wash away anything you don’t want to be in your mouth – think leftover food that gets stuck, eek! Of course, we are talking strictly about those chewing gums that are sugar-free, because while all the others help you in the production of saliva, the sugary ones also leave a residue that can down the road cause cavities. Most of the sugar-free gums also contain the natural sweetener xylitol, which can neutralize acidity and stop bacteria from sticking onto the surface of your teeth. Meaning, fresh breath is easier to attain and keep!
Use Really Good Dental Products
Yes, you brush your teeth and maybe floss sometimes. But how often do you change your brush? Is it too harsh, or not even sturdy enough? When you reach for a new toothpaste, do you opt for the cheapest one because they’re all the same? These things are so everyday that we don’t even think about them, but we actually should, just because they are in fact an everyday item we put in our mouth several times a day. That’s why it’s really important to use dental care products that are proven to be good for you, your teeth and gums and your overall health. Remember – healthy teeth, lovelier smile!
Don’t Be Afraid of the Guy in White
Of course, we’re talking about the dentist. Poor guys have such a bad reputation, and it’s very rare that someone will utter “I like going to the dentist’s!”. But you know that regular check-ups are crucial for the health of your mouth, and he or she might be quicker to notice something going on several months before you would have noticed that. Moreover, they will always have additional information for you on how to keep your teeth and gums healthy and pretty. So take a deep breath, and if your dentist hasn’t seen you since 2016, give them a ring now.
Give Whitening Products a Try
If you’re not happy with the color of your teeth as is now, there are various ways of whitening them a bit, from over-the-counter products, eating strawberries, rubbing teeth with baking soda, and of course, in-office procedures. But be careful; you don’t want to damage your teeth, and unfortunately, some of the products tend to do that when overused or used differently to what they are supposed to. We suggest you talk this through with your dentist (have you called them yet?), as they will have the best solution for you personally.
Quit Smoking
Smokers are probably rolling their eyes right now, but we’ll bear with this. The thing is, dear smoker, you know it’s bad for you. But hear me out. Okay, you might know already that smoking increases the chance of a mouth disease and other major health problems. Are you aware that you stink? No matter how serious you take your dental hygiene, you stink after one cigarette. If this is the first time you’ve ever heard this, it just means that people around you are way too polite.
The road to pearly whites you can show off both in photos and live is not a rocky one. Healthy and clean mouth is the first step to achieving the smile you deserve. So go get it!
